The grades, in plain terms
The number after the E is the percentage of ethanol. Higher ethanol is cheaper and greener, but older engines were tuned for less of it — which is why ethanol-free is worth finding.
Ethanol-free premium. XP100 · Power 100 · Speed 100 — what older engines were tuned for.
10% ethanol. The old default blend, fine for most vehicles built after 2010.
20% ethanol. Now mandated at nearly every pump — you don't need us to find this one.
85% ethanol. Flex-fuel only. A few dozen outlets, mostly metros.
Pure ethanol. Flex-fuel only. A few hundred outlets and climbing.
